CEDAR FALLS - ACES and Hawkeye Community College have teamed up to bring the Microsoft Across America truck to the Cedar Valley on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1007 Technology Parkway.
The truck will showcase technology solutions from major companies such as HP, Microsoft, Compaq, Cisco and Intel. Representatives from ACES will be available throughout the day to give tours of the truck, which will be located in the ACES parking lot.
"This is ACES' second year for hosting this event, and we are excited that Hawkeye Community College is participating with us to provide a 'content rich' day," said ACES president Phil Kenealy.
ACES will also be offering tours of the Prairie Lakes Data Center from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The data center provides data storage for businesses throughout the Midwest and utilizes the latest technology in storing and protecting data. Pre-registration for tours is suggested by contacting ACES at (319) 266-9800.
The day's activities will also include mini-classes with a variety of speakers giving half-hour presentations on a wide variety of technology-related subjects. Chris Case and Celina Peerman will be the featured speakers, with Kenealy among the others who are presenting.
Peerman is a trainer and consultant with the Hawkeye Community College Center for Business and Industry. She has served in senior administrator roles in the past where she was accountable for quality service, effective process, diverse staff and achieving the bottom-line. Her expertise is in providing quality training that directly contributes to better service for stakeholders. Some of the topics she will be presenting include conflict management, virtual team building and supervising at a distance.
Case is the founder of Case Training Inc., a company that aims to make computer education fun, exciting and educational. Since founding Case Training in 1994, Case has focused on training individuals as well as corporations in what a business needs to operate successfully. The mini-classes she will be providing include topics such as Word 2007, Outlook 2007 and Excel 2007.
ACES suggests those who wish to participate in the free mini-classes register in advance by contacting ACES.
The events will also include a free grilled lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and vendor exhibits on display in the Atrium of the main building. IBM will be showcasing their Blade Technology and 3Com will show their Voice Over Internet Protocol and Switching as well as Fortinet.
"This event will have something for everyone that has an interest in information technology," said Kenealy.
