Supper, entertainment served at farm meeting

WATERLOO -- The 96th annual Black Hawk County Farm Bureau meeting will be Monday at Red Carpet Golf in Waterloo.

The evening begins with a grilled Iowa chop supper at 6 p.m. President Eric Sage will conduct a short business meeting following the meal.

Entertainment this year will be the Doo Wops. The Doo Wops made their debut in 1994. Their repertoire includes classics such as "Under the Boardwalk," "In the Still of the Night," "Blue Moon," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and many more.

Tickets are available at the Farm Bureau office for $10. Seating may be limited.

Iowa Women in Ag scheduled for July 30

RIVERSIDE -- The second annual Iowa Women in Ag Conference will be held at Riverside Casino and Golf Resort in Riverside July 30.

Registration cost before July 23 is $99 and $125 after. Get a registration discount by becoming a friend of IWIA. A $50 friend saves 25 percent on registration fees and a $100 friend saves 50 percent.

Leadership program now accepting applications

JOHNSTON -- Applications are being accepted until mid-July for class IV of the I-LEAD adult agricultural leadership development program sponsored by the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

The program is not restricted to corn leadership.

Class IV will be announced in early September, begin a series of nine workshops after this year's harvest and end with a graduation in August 2010. Most sessions run from Thursday noon to Saturday noon and include a variety of skills, information and networking experiences.

Three longer session are planned to take class members to a U.S. Grains Council meeting in July 2009; to Washington, D.C., for meetings with state and federal ag leaders in July 2010; and on an international study mission.

Applicants must be Iowa residents and commit to attend all nine sessions. Most costs for the program are paid by the ICPB and the ICGA. Class members are responsible for transportation costs between their homes and meeting locations in Iowa.
