" So you have four and a half hours to drive around and sample a taste of each business and it will only cost you $20? No thanks. "

" You have accused me of being cynical with my comments, Hawk69. Looks like it's your turn here. Didn't you say, "what goes around, comes around?" "

prodigal son wrote on Jan 6, 2009 1:55 AM:

" Um, how about they all get together and do it in one spot? Is this some kind of masochistic treasure hunt? I'm not going to drive all over town for frickin' tapas, ok people? "

IowaHawk1969 wrote on Jan 6, 2009 7:24 AM:

" D200man Prodigal seems to agree with me too. It would make more sense to have it in one location. "

Anthony wrote on Jan 6, 2009 8:24 AM:

" Wow, some people just have to see something negative in everything. I think it would be fun. All of these places are pretty much within a 1 mile radius and there are probably a few of them that a lot of people have never eaten at. So, for $20 you can go to each of them and sample what they have to offer. It's a pub crawl for food. Some of you need to learn how to enjoy life, quit looking for the downside in everything, that's gotta be miserable. "

agreetodisagree wrote on Jan 6, 2009 9:30 AM:

" Thats how people feel that live in small towns like loo. Drive all over town... really, its like 2 miles at the most. God forbid you would walk to a few of the places. Live a little.. do something new and different. "

dm1 wrote on Jan 6, 2009 10:01 AM:

" All those people touching food in all those places. I just hope they remember to use hot soapy water to wash their hands after using the restroom. After all, like Donnie Baker says, it is state law. "

JonL wrote on Jan 6, 2009 10:30 AM:

" i don't think they're going to let people handle a bunch fo food; i'm sure it's just generous-sized samples individually portioned. and yes, it's for walking. "

Adversary wrote on Jan 6, 2009 10:41 AM:

" Sounds like a really cool idea! And I'm sorely tempted . . .

But, I have to agree with some. And I'm not trying to be negative here, but, I have a hard enough time finding parking in that area to go to even one place, much less many.

I hope they do this again in late spring, because I think that would be really enjoyable. One could walk from place to place on a nice evening, trying different things. But, in this kind of weather . . .

I must admit the idea is making me hungry. :P "

" hawk69 and prodigal-like anthony says, its a pub crawl for food. or what most people would call, a social event. the ticket price is $20 for the event, not for you to make dang sure you get $20 worth of food in your belly with little effort as possible. since its obvious, you dont get the concept of this or the social part of this event, then it would be a good idea if you just stayed away. dont rag on something you dont even understand. go stuff your face at an all-u-can-eat buffet somewhere. "

oldicehouse wrote on Jan 6, 2009 12:17 PM:

" I think they should charge $25.00 and have scheduled shuttle buses, running the folks around. Now that could be a fun bus ride. You would pay that on gas. Think of the bloggers on the bus you wouldn't know. "

Garrett Storm wrote on Jan 6, 2009 2:14 PM:

" I believe part of the concept is to get different people into different venues. Trying different things, in different places. Off the old beaten track. There is life beyond McDonald's and Burger King. (two personal favorites). I agree a bus trip might be fun and entertaining. How about a party bus? Anyhow- I will be there, however far I may have to walk, as I have only been to 4 of the mentioned establishments and I am open to something NEW in my life. Sounds like fun. "

waverly wrote on Jan 6, 2009 9:17 PM:

" Again the only thing to do in waterloo is get Drunk.....oh I guess you can go to the Dan Gable museum, right there in Hooker alley on 2nd st. and commercial......or hey we can go an watch high school kids play hockey, and like the big leagues we can tail gate in the parking lot.

Thats about as ridiculous as tailgating at a pee wee football game.....
Again theres nothing to do in your city people.....get real "

Garrett Storm wrote on Jan 7, 2009 2:58 AM:

" waverly: I guess I don't understand your beef... the only thing to do in Waterloo is get drunk? I don't drink, and I do plenty in Waterloo. Guess it's all in what you look for. This article didn't say a thing about drinking until you get drunk. You can do that sitting in a lawn chair...in your own garage...while you are complaining about nothing to do...and putting down other people in other towns who find things to do...get real yourself. "

waverly wrote on Jan 7, 2009 6:54 AM:

" Look at any event this town holds GAR, I bet you at the taste of waterloo, people consume more alcohol then food, try having that event with soda only, then you'll see what I am talking about.....waterloo is just a wanna be big city that they will never be, by the decisions that the people who live there make. "

agreetodisagree wrote on Jan 7, 2009 7:50 AM:

" Waverly- first of all I hope you don't live in Waverly. Secondly, there are other things to do in Loo that you forgot to mention such as; get robbed, assulted, or shot at. This happends several times every day in the loo!!! "

krstlklear wrote on Jan 7, 2009 10:51 AM:

" To those of you nay-sayers- why don't you just MOVE if all you have to say his negative things about your town? And if you don't live here, why don't you complain about your own town and shut up about everybody else's. And as for you, agreetodisagree, shootings, robberies and assaults happen in EVERY DARN TOWN. Don't ever move to a larger, more progressive city, people. You will get laughed our the door for your ignorance. "

agreetodisagree wrote on Jan 7, 2009 11:35 AM:

" I've lived in other cities twice the size of 'Loo and believe me there were not as many violent crimes as this town of 60,000. ...and its only getting worse. "

always ask why wrote on Jan 7, 2009 4:51 PM:

" well, i guess you better lock your doors, pull the blinds, sit down, and blog about it for the rest of your days. that solves alot.
more than crime, or lack of this or that, or anything else, heres the problem with waterloo....complainers... sit on your butt, do nothing complainers....backward thinking, selfish complainers.
its like a disease, and in waterloo, its an epidemic. way too many idiots with the power to spread the negativity. if the courier really cares about this community, they would shut down this blog section and then the complainers would have to go back to the old way, complaining to the t.v. and not infect everyone else. "

waverly wrote on Jan 7, 2009 5:03 PM:

" Didn't any of you notice that the majority of the places are in the 200 and 300 blocks of E. 4th St.? Why in the world would you need to drive to those 6 places? Another is right across the bridge, another 2 more blocks down, and one a street over. The only out of the way ones are at the Center for the Arts and at Bridges, which you would drive to. I can't believe people are complaining about walking 6 or blocks. Here's something fun to do, and STILL people find a reason to complain. If you've never been to one before, you should give it a try.
