ROCK RAPIDS (AP) — A man wanted in Buchanan County in a chase that injured a deputy near Independence is in custody in Lyon County in northwest Iowa.

Authorities say Tracy Hackert, of Jesup, surrendered on Sunday. He faces several charges stemming from the Oct. 1 chase.

Buchanan County Deputy Joseph Schwinghammer, of Independence, was injured when his squad car ran off the road and went into a ditch.

The charges against Hackert include eluding a police officer, two counts of assaulting a police officer with a dangerous weapon and 18 traffic citations.

Hackert’s car was recovered in some trees in rural Lyon County.
