Boil order issued in Cresco
CRESCO — The DNR has issued a boil advisory for the Howard County city of Cresco following a system-wide loss of water pressure.

City officials think a water line ruptured Tuesday night, draining the city’s water reservoirs and dropping water pressure in some water lines in the city.

Residents are advised to boil water until laboratory results indicate there is no risk of bacterial contamination. Until the DNR announces a lift of the boil advisory, residents should boil all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, food preparation or any water that people might consume. However, city water may be used for bathing.

To destroy bacteria that may be present in the water, bring the water to a boil, boil one minute and then allow it to cool before using. More information on disinfecting water is available on the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

City officials are also asking residents to reduce their water use until water reservoirs fill and they restore pressure.

The DNR is working with the city as it isolates the problem area and makes repairs.

Residents should continue to boil their water until the DNR or the city notifies them that water is meeting standards and is safe to drink.
