Alicia J. Burkle (1972-2008)
NASHUA — Alicia Jody Burkle, 36, of North Liberty, formerly of Nashua, died Monday, Sept. 1, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, of squamous cell carcinoma.

She was born July 4, 1972, in Charles City, daughter of Stanley and Gloria Prull Burkle. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1990 and from the University of Iowa in 1995 with a degree in education. She taught at Wickham Elementary School, Coralville, and Weber Elementary School, Iowa City.

Survived by: her parents; two brothers, Kevin (Amy) Burkle of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Todd (Patty) Burkle of Monona; and a sister, Kimbra (Kevin) Smyth of Urbandale.

Celebration of life service: 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, followed by cremation. An additional service will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at First Methodist Church, North Liberty. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorial fund: has been established in her name to purchase an audio communicative device for special-needs students at an elementary school.
