Police make arrest as wave of shootings continues to plague Waterloo

WATERLOO --- Waterloo police made an arrest as they continue to chase a wave of gunfire.
Officers arrested a teenager in connection with a Monday afternoon incident where a person on a bicycle opened fire at a car near the intersection of Linn and Cottage streets.
No injures were reported, but at least one bullet hit the car.
Later in the day, police arrested Shantorio Vashawn Evans, 18, in connection with the incident for intimidation with a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, going armed, possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver and violation of the drug tax stamp act after searching his home at 188 W. 10th St.
Neighborhood residents have tired of the attacks, which have left at least five people with bullet wounds over the past week.
"We don't even run any more. We just turn around and see who got shot. We don't run. We don't duck," said Leon Mosley, a former Black Hawk County supervisor and president of the Gates Park Neighborhood Association.
He said his cousin was shot Sunday shortly after midnight.
Police said it's too early to tell if the assaults are related, and so far only one other person has been arrested, that time in connection with a Friday night shooting that sent one man to the hospital.
Some of the victims and witnesses haven't cooperated with the investigations, said Capt. John Beckman with the Waterloo Police Department.
"They won't tell the cops nothing. They call it 'snitching,'" Mosley said. "But when two or three of them are dead, they're going to want to do something."
In Monday's attack, Antonio Dupree Moore, 19, of Waterloo, told officers he was headed south on Linn Street at about 3:05 p.m. when he came across a truck stopped in the middle of the road.
Moore stopped, and Evans and another person rode up to the truck on bicycles and began talking to the driver.
That's when Evans allegedly pulled out a handgun and started shooting at Moore's vehicle, according to court records.
Moore drove off, clipping the truck as he fled the gunfire, according to police reports. He called police a short time later to report the assault.
Officers searching Evans' home found a. 22-caliber revolver, a .32-caliber revolver and more than 10 doses of crack cocaine, records state.
Evans is prohibited from possessing firearms because he has a prior conviction for felony drug charges.
