Bettendorf superintendent resigns after arrest

BETTENDORF (AP) — Bettendorf schools Superintendent Marty Lucas, formerly superintendent in Charles City, has resigned in an agreement with the district that resolves a dispute spurred by his second arrest on drunken driving charges.

The agreement announced Wednesday calls for Lucas to resign effective July 15. The deal includes payments of $25,000 from the school district and $24,000 from the district’s insurance company.

Lucas was hired as superintendent in 2005. He was put on paid administrative leave in June in response to his Feb. 28 arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated.

The school district last year had an enrollment of about 4,400.

" Lets analyze. This idiot Superintendent aside gets his 2nd drunk driving ticket and the school rewards him for his behavior by spiffing him over 20,000 and the insurence company does the same.

I thought when you broke the Law you were supposed to be punished for it. Again, sending students the wrong message. Break the law, get rewarded. Shameful. "

" What a poor role model, both of the Superintendent, and also from the school district. I was from the school district where he got his first one years ago, and I am quite suprised (and ashamed of the district for that matter) that he got to keep his job with that one. "
