Osage man charged for having meth, weapons
By JEFF REINITZ, Courier Staff Writer
CEDAR RAPIDS ---- An 31-year-old man is being held without bond because authorities believe he was involved in trafficking methamphetamine and had 13 guns.

A federal grand jury indicted Les Gocha of Osage for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of a substance containing meth and 50 grams or more of pure meth. He is also charged with being an illegal drug user in possession of firearms.

The indictment was filed March 21 in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids but remained sealed until Gocha was taken into custody Tuesday. A detention hearing is scheduled for April 9. Trial is scheduled for June 4 in Sioux City.

Court records allege Gocha and others worked together to distribute meth between 2004 and October 2006. Gocha also used meth and had the firearms Oct. 21, 2006. The weapons were a military-style SKS rifle, five shotguns, three pistols and four other rifles.

The government is attempting to seize the firearms.

The charges carry penalties of up to life in prison and a $4 million fine upon conviction.

The case was investigated by the Mitchell County Sheriff's Department, Osage Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Fire Arms and Explosives and the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force.

" It depends on the Judge and if the person had any assets worth anything or not. Plus having the firearms in the same house or car is considered a no no. This makes the arresting police officers have a more profound sense of fear of being shot. You would get less time trying to rob a bank or one of them legal drug places that their drug company made for drugs. There is hope for the addicted and people with hang ups hurts and habits its called Celebrate Recovery. The root of the drug problem and compulsive disorders starts and ends with the person. Hurting people medicate with uppers downers and booze some with sex and other compulsive disorders. I myself have major problems was classified as the worse case in Iowa I was tagged as a classic psychopath I was 4 off the board in the area of anti-social personality. And I was too I admit that I did not care that people got hurt ! I did not care if they knew that I hurt them. I spent time in prison . 12yrs. 9 months, 7 days straight . I have been out now since 97 and really had problems. I said no for a few years to drugs and booze but my mental problems began to grow and my way of dealing did not work anymore. I got into smoking pot, still said no to the hard stuff the drinking began to be everyday, Prison Began to look better then the way I was. I was swimming in circles getting nowhere. Then I tried meth and it was great WOW. That became a problem too it became all I wanted. I was broken I could not cope I thought about running away from everything and everyone but my problems seem to follow me as they always done. I Found Celebrate Recovery and found how I can overcome and deal with the things that was eating at me I got to the root of my compulsive habits and disorders. I then began to deal with them and was set free What was my problem you ask it was that I was carrying some major hurts with me that effected my life and warped who I really was see I was sexually molested when I was on my paper route And I went to tell someone and they said your okay go play! I kept that bottled up all these years. Until I was completely broken. So until I came to that place in my life, there was nothing no one could do, or say to help me out of my prison, My name is John a believer in Jesus who struggles with anger issues and habits. That found the answer in Celebrate Recovery. You can find it too, but not until you come to the point in your life where you are totally at your end or until you hear the truth and allow it to move you to wanting help, not just in addition problems your problem may lay in trying to please people all the time of fix things. That is called codependency yes they have a word for that too. The cure lays in ourselves and with the help of Celebrate Recovery I am free at last. "

" What a concept. Bad guy (meth dealer) has in his possession GUNS! Well do ya think? I will submit to you when Police Officers raid a suspected "meth house" they would be wise to assume that guns will be inside. That in itself doesn't mean guns are the problem. Meth is the problem. If the article is implying that Police Officers think guns should be banned, then ban sharp knives, chainsaws, ball bats, clubs, etc.etc. Guns in the hands of the wrong people are not a good thing but Police kill more innocent people every year than armed homeowners. Stop implying just because there are "Guns" in a home that they shouldn't be. I am sensitive to issues involving 2nd ammendment rights. There are times when a Police officer will stop someone for a minor event (motor vehicle violation etc and the article will mention that the driver had a gun in his car. So What? The gun was not germain to the situation, but the media will mention it everytime. Even if he had a shotgun properly encased in the trunk the article will not mention that facet of the story just that he "had a gun in the car!" Gimme a break. Stick with the real issues and quit trying to drum up hysteria over gun ownership. 13 guns seems like alot especially the SKS, but he only has 2 hands........ "
