King coy on 2010 plans
U.S. Rep. Steve King wouldn’t rule out a possible run for governor in 2010 and was coy about the prospects he would seek the position when questioned Monday.
The four-term GOP congressman from Kiron said he doesn’t know yet whether he’ll run for the post, but said it would be foolish to limit his options.
During a taping of Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press” show Monday, King said that his most important job right now is to work to reunify the Republican Party in the state.
“I think with the leadership in the Iowa House and Senate along with the new chairman in the party, we have the tools to do that, and I want to continue to support that before we start competing against each other,” King said.
Other potential GOP challengers for Democratic Gov. Chet Culver already are lining up and include Bob Vander Plaats of Sioux City, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and State Rep. Rod Roberts of Carroll, among others.
