EMILY’S List dollars headed to Greenwald

September 16th, 2008

From Lee Enterprises Des Moines bureau reporter Fred Love –

Democratic congressional candidate Becky Greenwald on Tuesday accepted the backing of EMILY’s List, an advocacy group that supports pro-choice women running for office.

Greenwald, of Perry, is challenging Republican incumbent Rep. Tom Latham in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.

An endorsement from EMILY’s List means Greenwald will now be able to tap some of organization’s financial resources and a “national network of voters who support progressive women for Congress,” according to a release from Greenwald’s office.

The endorsement comes a week after Greenwald’s campaign launched a Web site trying to tie Latham to the policies of President Bush.

The site, which can be accessed at www.replacetomlatham.com, features a photo of Latham speaking with Bush and allows visitors to the site to provide their own “caption” of what was being said at the time the photo was taken.

Latham is seeking his eighth term.
